I look at it this way, I’m on the right track at this time and I’m doing great in school for the most part. Why mess up the direction I’m going in so soon. I don’t think I have time for school, friends, and for dating right now. Sure going to eat is fine and so is going to a movie or a party. Anything serious in regards to dating doesn’t sound like a good idea right now for me.

Maybe in a year or more or once I’m steadily on track, I can make time for dating. I just think dating exclusively or too often is too much for me right now. Sure, some hopeless romantics may think I’m messing up and that I may miss a once in a lifetime chance by missing my dream man by saying no to a date. It is what it is; my time is limited and very fragile right now.

What do you think? Am I reading too much into one simple date? Should I go on a date while I’m just barely getting used to things as a young college girl? Studying is very important for students and it’s important not to lose yourself in the party scene when away at college. It’s very easy to put off an assignment or to put off studying to hang or party with friends. Studying not only helps you understand your work, but it also prepares you for important exams and makes the homework you’re working on go by quicker. The more you understand what you’re working on the easier it is to get the work done quickly and accurately.

I know first hand how easy it is to put off studying to party. When I first moved into my dorm I wanted to get to know people and wanted to be part of the social scene in a big way. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. It’s important to find a balance. As my Pops would say, “know when it’s time to play, and know when playtime must stay away!” Silly, but it hold true. When I was worrying more about being social, study time wasn’t effective. I spent very little time studying, which meant I didn’t understand all the material and I spent more time working on homework and exams.

There are some great books that help with building a great study pattern and that will teach you the benefits of studying in case the art of studying confuses you. I’ve tried to give her tips to get organized time and time again, but something always happens and there is always an excuse so now I turn to you. Maybe, just maybe, you need help in staying organized as a college student, and maybe you will use my tips to help you be more prepared in your day’s task.

Four tools that help you stay organized as a college student

1. List – list are great and their greater when you use them. If I don’t keep a list, then things just don’t get done as they should, something always gets left out!. You can write down things that need to get done or use you cell phone or computer for this to-do list.
2. Calendar – Just like making list, use a calendar on your wall, cell phone, or computer for important task that have deadlines. Don’t forget to set a reminder!
3. Microsoft Outlook – your best friend. If I get an important email I can set a reminder if needed, flag an item to set as a task for a specific day, and I can color code my email or task to set importance and urgency.
4. Keep a day planner – Important information such as contacts, calendar and task right by your side.
5. Your cell phone – Your phone is a lot like a day planner; contacts, task, and calendar your data and it’s always by your side. Many phones have other applications that can keep you organized as well, like calorie counters, dictionary applications, budget keepers and other like applications.

Boy was I wrong; this assignment wasn’t a piece of cake at all! This project involved a real businesses statistics; graphing their statistics, presenting these statistics in a way that would be understood, and it had to be accurate. I did get this project done, but I’m amazed I didn’t pull out all my hair doing this assignment in the little bit of time I had. This important assignment was worth 100 points, I hope to get a 80 points at least, and that’s asking for a while lot. My work looked good but I know it’s not as thorough as my peers project.

Learn from me, be prepared. At least understand the directions of the assignment before you decide to put things off until the last minute. This was a very stressful week for me and I just hope I did a good job in my professor’s eyes. I know I wasn’t prepared and I didn’t take this assignment as serious as I should have. I will be more prepared and thorough going forward, trust that!

Music and I have a great relationship. I love most kinds of music! Two things I’m not so fond of, heavy metal (unless it’s raw talent) or hard core gangsta’ rap (unless it’s old school)! My roommate and I had this discussion, I told her it distracts me and makes me a bit tense. She agreed it bother her as well. Well, she has her favorite music downloads and plays them often. The music goes from something we both like to heavy metal then to hard core gangsta’ rap then back to heavy metal. Ugh! I was so excited thinking we were on the same page. I guess not.

The other big no-no with my roommate is that she is a mess! Clothes everywhere, food wrappers left out, old soda cans and such! I’m surprised our room doesn’t smell. So, I lied, yup I did! I told her I had horrible allergies as well as asthma and that dust is a big factor in my health complications. We will see if she takes heed to that! Only time will tell.

Okay, it’s not all bad, my roommate is very sweet, uber cool, and she is very smart. I believe if I’m patient with her and get past her bad choice in music and cleaning habits we will do just fine. She has taken some of the courses that I have taken and may be a great benefit as a study partner. Again, time will tell.

Now that I have a real mini-break, and I have time at home, I will rest. Rest means: no homework, no finals, and no school related stuff period! I will lay up in the sun and sit with my girls catching up on whatever it is that I missed, get my hair ‘did’ and nails done because they need it so badly! Not only will I hang with my girls but I do miss eating Moms’ home cooking, you should see what I eat now that I’m away from home. Can someone say “no more top ramen” please? I’m excited to see Pops too, but well… I just want to see him, watching him shuffle away at his newspaper isn’t my idea of a good time.

What do you like to do when you get a chance to visit home? I’m sure you have some really exciting things that you do, but I just want to chill and unwind. According to an article I read, ‘What should I major in…?’, the best majors in this day in age is biomedical sciences, biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, computer engineering, and electrical engineering with a focus on staying Green! With this information and this day and age I have to study my options but gear it in the direction in which best suits me.

I have research to do, and it won’t hurt to revisit the counselor’s office to see what major best suit the direction in which I’m headed. My parents will be most proud that I’m really thinking of my future and not just in the moment. I will let you know how all my research goes and let you know in which direction I go in regards to choosing my major.

Prof X is a bit uptight and ‘controls’ me in Mathematical Analysis for Business II.. Even though she is uptight, she is a stylin’ woman in her 40’s. She is like the professor in all the movies that would appear to follow the rules, dresses fly, hair is always up, wears glasses, and is being checked out by every male despite her age. She seems to have the class under control but the minute she turns around it seems like high school all over again.

Prof Y is in control of my Economics History course. He is a spitting image of Professor Klump from the Nutty Professor, although he is a bit smaller and even more boring then good ole’ Professor Klump. Due to the fact everything he says is monotone, I fear falling asleep in his class not being able to retain a darn thing. Good thing there is such a thing as Google in case my studies slip.

Then you got, Prof Z who teaches Business Statistics. Prof Z is an older male in his 50’s, has an interesting story to tell, attractive, and has a deep voice like that of Sean Connery which makes him even more attractive. I would never date him, no worries there! It’s just easier to retain the information because he is very smooth and has a style of teaching that keeps you engaged.

Opps, almost forgot! My Managerial Accounting course has a Professor too, so X, Y and Z won’t do… Unfortunately I can’t read this professor very well. So time will tell. She seems nice but she is just there, simple but nice. We will see how it goes with her and with each an every other professor I have through my college days. I’m sure it will all work out in the end, as long as I do what I’m suppose to be doing while I’m in class, all will be good.

There are so many things to think about moving into a dorm. Not only do I have to pack the right things. I have to think about not having privacy and staying on track while thinking of who I will room with. What if I’m stuck with someone who is filthy, never showers, or with someone I get along with great and they become a distraction. I’m distracted very easily so this is one more thing to worry about!

I wonder how my parents will deal with this once I move into a dorm. Sure, they handle it well when I move a few blocks away to a friend’s house, but this is much different. I’m moving into a dorm with different people they don’t know and I’m much further away. My parents are control freaks; I wonder how they will feel not knowing everything I’m doing. I would guess they will pop up unexpectedly from time to time and call me off the hook just to feel as though they are in control. I’m excited but there is no telling how my parents will react once I’m moved out and in a dorm.
