Thoughts on dating in college

Any thought on dating while in college? I was asked out a few times by this guy I often see studying in the library. Studying in the library, that’s always a good sign, right? Well, who really knows? He could be all messed up with some major undisclosed issues. It’s not like a man comes with his issues written on his forehead.

I look at it this way, I’m on the right track at this time and I’m doing great in school for the most part. Why mess up the direction I’m going in so soon. I don’t think I have time for school, friends, and for dating right now. Sure going to eat is fine and so is going to a movie or a party. Anything serious in regards to dating doesn’t sound like a good idea right now for me.

Maybe in a year or more or once I’m steadily on track, I can make time for dating. I just think dating exclusively or too often is too much for me right now. Sure, some hopeless romantics may think I’m messing up and that I may miss a once in a lifetime chance by missing my dream man by saying no to a date. It is what it is; my time is limited and very fragile right now.

What do you think? Am I reading too much into one simple date? Should I go on a date while I’m just barely getting used to things as a young college girl? Or do you believe as I do, that I know myself best and know what is good for me right now? Please share by commenting below. I need help right here!

Studying vs. partying

Now that break is coming to an end it is time to head back to campus and get back to the books. Break went well, I relaxed and I partied… and as I mention before, I didn’t study one bit while at home for break. I still have a few days to spare before break is completely over and I thought it would be smart to get back to the books.

Studying is very important for students and it’s important not to lose yourself in the party scene when away at college. It’s very easy to put off an assignment or to put off studying to hang or party with friends. Studying not only helps you understand your work, but it also prepares you for important exams and makes the homework you’re working on go by quicker. The more you understand what you’re working on the easier it is to get the work done quickly and accurately.

I know first hand how easy it is to put off studying to party. When I first moved into my dorm I wanted to get to know people and wanted to be part of the social scene in a big way. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. It’s important to find a balance. As my Pops would say, “know when it’s time to play, and know when playtime must stay away!” Silly, but it hold true. When I was worrying more about being social, study time wasn’t effective. I spent very little time studying, which meant I didn’t understand all the material and I spent more time working on homework and exams.

There are some great books that help with building a great study pattern and that will teach you the benefits of studying in case the art of studying confuses you. Look what I’ve found: Returning to Learning: Studying as an Adult and Study Tips 101: 101 Secrets for Studying Success by Joshua Shifrin.

Learn from me, play when it’s time to play and study when it’s time to study. Homework and test will go by smoother and you will have peace of mind versus a migraine. How do you stay focused and build good study habits. Please share by commenting below.
